Report Leaks! Conserve Water! Protect Our Future!
Water is life, yet many of us take it for granted. Every time we turn on a tap, flush a toilet, or run a washing machine, we rely on a resource that is becoming increasingly scarce. South Africa, like many other parts of the world, is facing growing water challenges due to climate change, population growth, pollution, and poor infrastructure management. The good news? Change starts with us.
Why should you save water?
South Africa is classified as a water-scarce country. Our rainfall is half the global average, and recurring droughts are becoming more frequent and severe. Many rural and peri-urban communities still struggle with access to clean and safe water. When we waste water at home or work, we indirectly contribute to this crisis.
Saving water isn’t just about reducing your water bill, it’s about ensuring that future generations inherit a planet where clean water is still accessible. It’s about protecting ecosystems, supporting agriculture, and building resilience against climate variability.
While long-term solutions require investment and policy reform, there’s one powerful action each of us can take right now: REPORT WATER LEAKS!!!
Yes, saving water begins with you and one of the most impactful things you can do is to become the eyes and ears of your community when it comes to water wastage.
How to report water leakages?

To build a water-conscious society where every citizen actively participates in protecting water resources — one leak at a time.
To empower communities through digital tools that make it easy to report water leaks, track progress, and hold municipalities accountable for timely repairs.
- Residents & Citizens – The first line of defense; they report the leaks.
- Municipalities (e.g., City of Mbombela) – Responsible for repairs and water management.
- Water Research Commission (WRC) – Supports innovation and tech for water monitoring.
- SALGA – Ensures local government policies support service delivery.
- MISA – Provides technical support to municipalities for infrastructure issues.
Conclusion.
Saving water doesn’t require huge sacrifices. It begins with awareness and intention. It begins with you. By being mindful of our water usage and actively reporting leaks, we take a crucial step towards safeguarding this precious resource. Let us not wait for others to act, change begins with each of us. Together through small but meaningful actions, we can secure a future where clean, safe water is available for all.
The next time you wash your hands, ask yourself: “Do I really need this much water?” If each of us made small adjustments to our habits, the collective impact would be extraordinary.
Water is not infinite, and our future depends on how we manage it today. Be a water ambassador in your home, school, workplace, or community. Talk about it. Educate others. Act now.
Because saving water isn’t someone else’s job.
It’s yours. It’s mine. It’s ours.
Let’s do it — one drop at a time. 💧
